When moving into a new home, getting to know your neighbors takes a bit of time and effort. But the results are well worth it. Here are some simple, tried, and proven ways to meet people in your neighborhood – without appearing nosy.
Host a Housewarming Party
Once you're done moving items into your new house and unpacking them, host a housewarming party for people in your community. It doesn't have to be fancy; in fact, it could even be a potluck event. Welcome your neighbors who show up for the event and enjoy spending time getting to know them.
Get Out and About
Does your neighborhood have a park? If so, head out regularly for exercise and strike up conversations with those you meet while you're out. If you have kids, hanging out at the park is one of the best ways to help them get to know other kids in the local area.
Get Involved in the Community
Look for local volunteer opportunities, classes, and events you can get involved in. Doing so not only enables you to meet others in your neighborhood but also to work together with them to improve your community and/or support local businesses.
Would you like to meet new friends from the comfort of your living room or bedroom? If so, check out apps such as Nextdoor, Bumble, We3, and MeetMe. Alternatively, you can use Meetup to find local friends who enjoy the same hobbies and activities that you do.
Check Out Garage Sales
Stay on the lookout for garage sales in your neighborhood. Use those events to get to know the sellers and other locals who come to shop. As a bonus, you'll likely find great deals on needed furnishings and decorations for your new home.
